Where to turn
If something is wrong right now.
Ethos tells your placement office, or the Ethos team, and keeps a record. It does not replace the people below. If you are in danger, call the emergency number first.

In any country
- Your own university, even if it is not an Ethos member. Every university has someone responsible for students abroad. Ask for the international office or the placement office.
- Your embassy or consulate. They help citizens in trouble abroad, including with the police, hospitals and lawyers.
- The organisation that placed you, if there was one. Their agreement with you usually includes a duty of care.
- Your insurer. Most travel and placement insurance includes a 24 hour assistance line for medical and legal emergencies.

What Ethos does, and does not do
When you mark something as serious, or a Pulse note sounds serious, a person is told: your university's placement office, or the Ethos team if you are not attached to a member university. They acknowledge it, tell the company that a concern exists without saying who raised it, record the reply, and keep the record.
Ethos does not give legal advice, negotiate for you, or represent you. It is the door and the record. The people above are the ones who can act. Numbers change; if one does not work, search the name of the body given here.
